The initial part of the lecture will be given by Dr. Stephen G. Monismith ((PhD, University of California, Berkeley; PDF, University of Western Australia). The talk will focus on several ecological and environmental issues pertaining to the effects of water resources use on the ecology of the San Francisco Bay. Several key concepts pertaining to the role of Fluid Mechanics in the environment will be introduced to the students. The lecture will also underline the need for understanding fundamental issues related to hydrology and fluid mechanics in order to develop strategies for environmental sustainability.
