| Title: | TCP/IP Security Issues |
| Venue: | 5104-Pilani |
In this lecture we will examine different security issues related to the TCP/IP suite of protocols. TCP/IP was not designed with security in mind and does not contain mechanisms to provide confidentiality, integrity and availability. Consequently, there have been numerous techniques, some quite ingenious, developed to circumvent the security of a TCP/IP connection. We will review some of the more important of such techniques and discuss simple solutions wherever possible. Topics to be covered will include fingerprinting, sniffing, hijacking, DDoS, DNS. The lecture will NOT cover the different cryptographic solutions that have been recently developed to address these security issues. A knowledge of TCP/IP will be assumed. No knowledge of cryptography is required.
